The seasonal variation of mortality during the year of the AMI (acute myocardial infarction) is presented as an important parameter in understanding of the mortality risk of the hospitalized patients. The data from 2732 consecutive patients with the AMI, hospitalized in the department of cardiology of the Medical University of Lublin in 1998-2001, were analyzed. The winter and summer months were defined according to the beginning of winter season and the beginning of summer season in Poland. The monthly mean temperature and relative air humidity for every month of the year were determined by using the data from the weather station of Lublin airport, located about 60 km south-east from the city. The seasonal variation of mortality was assessed by means of a month of the year (MOY) analysis. The monthly mortality during the year of AMI hospitalization increased from beginning of the winter to the end of the summer season (2.3% vs. 3.9% (p = 0.
